Targeted Strength: Being Attacked at Your Greatest Potential

What are the areas in your life that are always under enemy fire? They typically are the ones that feel the most strained, endure constant over-analysis, and trigger the most tears.

The enemy knows what these areas are—do you? It could be your finances, your marriage, your ministry, or maybe even your passion and talents. Whatever causes the most tension in your life is typically under purposeful, focused attack, and for good reason.

Let me take a second to say, this isn't a blanket statement that claims all hardship is caused by spiritual attack. No... some struggles are just due to a broken world, some are consequences from sin, and some are just plain bad luck (I don't really ascribe to luck, but dang, if it doesn't seem real sometimes—doesn't it?)

What I am saying, though, is that if we are constantly feeling like an ant under a bully's magnifying glass, that's because we may just be. We have a real enemy, and he is actually an expert on our lives and can pick out exactly what he wants to focus on.

If you belong to Christ already, then the areas you'll be targeted in the most, are the ones your enemy is most afraid of.

Afraid?

Abso-frickin-lutely!

He's a loser, but he's not stupid. The deceiver has spent our entire existence studying humanity, and he knows the things that will cause him the most problems down the road. As a child of God, if he can't have your soul, he'll try to destroy your impact. If he can't have you, then he wants to render you completely ineffective for the kingdom.

That means that he will pick out the areas of your greatest FUTURE strength, to attack you.

Read That Again:

The enemy will always attack you in the areas of your greatest future strength!

Whatever is being targeted, is an area that could be used to reach others and glorify God the most (AKA- hurt him the most). Relationships, careers, ministries, and even thoughts about yourself, can all be things that can make or break your testimony. The world needs your heart, talents, and story—that's why you have to protect them!

Steven Furtick, Pastor of Elevation Church in Charlotte, NC, made a stirring point in his sermon entitled, "The God of After."

At minute 31:46, he raises a point that directly relates to our topic today.

He states,

"What is it about you that he (the enemy) knows, that is causing him to attack you like that? If he's looking for someone to devour and he's picking on you, then what is it about you that causes you to be a target?"

In other words, where is the area of your greatest future strength? Is there something in your personality that is uniquely you, that, if honed correctly, could be a powerful weapon? Are your kids anointed with potential and destined to be earth-shakers? Could your marriage be a mentorship and a lighthouse for other struggling couples?

If nothing else, the fact that you are being singled out should probably tell you that there is promise and potential spoken over something in your life! Perhaps the point of your attack is the point that you're supposed to sharpen.

Furtick goes on to say,

"What is it that God has inside of you, that may even be unknown to you right now, that he (the enemy) sees about your future, that is causing him to fight you so hard like that?"

If you're struggling in something, then take it to its roots.

Could it be an ambush? If so, then label that target and make a note of it for the future—that's where you need to sharpen your blade!

Let targeted attacks point you in the direction of your greatest future strength, and get stubborn against the lies and arrows of the enemy! If you have a stubborn streak, hone that in the right direction—it can be a weapon as well. If the enemy is going to put you in the crosshairs, at least give him a wink while you're there.
